This sentence seems so simple, yet it has so much power.
If, for example, we are woken up every morning by the neighbor's construction noise, we get annoyed, perhaps grumble to ourselves and are in a bad mood, since we could have slept 1 h longer. I am thus giving the neighbor my attention, my energy. When I think this thought the first few times, the neural networks in my brain link up: construction noise – resentment; a beaten path forms between these two thoughts in the brain.
But if the construction site is still there after 6 months and I have been practicing resentment for 6 months, my neural networks link up more and more strongly and create, so to speak, a highway; after all, the thought of resentment, of anger, comes every morning. Through this feeling I send out an electromagnetic signature that influences all areas of my life. I have, so to speak, a certain frequency, a certain vibration.
If I remain in this vibration of resentment, of anger, I attract things that correspond to this frequency. In the lower range of frequencies are feelings such as pain, victim mentality, anger, grief, envy, etc. In the upper range are gratitude, appreciation, love, happiness, freedom, joy, etc. So the goal is to vibrate higher, so that I attract more and more high-vibrational positive things into my life.
When I am moving in the upper range of vibrations, I don't get upset about the construction noise at all. I then have thoughts like “since I'm already awake so early, I might as well do an hour of exercise” or “how hard-working the construction workers are, this will surely be a beautiful building someday..”.
Marcus Aurelius already said, “The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”
